Course Objectives
- To develop a comprehensive understanding of sport and physical education through a philosophical lens.
- To apply philosophical theories and concepts to issues and challenges in sport and physical activity.
- To foster a critical approach to ethical issues and debates in sport and physical activity.
- To encourage students to reflect on social issues and political events as they occur in sporting practice
- To enable students to examine the actions of athletes and sport participants within the relations of power
- To cultivate the ability to problematize individual and collective actions, choices, and understandings in the practice of sport and physical activity.
Course Content
This course aims to provide a comprehensive philosophical insight into sport and physical education, particularly manifested in moral disputes and ethical issues in sport and physical education. Through the application of a variety of theories and concepts to metaphysical, ethical, epistemological, and sociopolitical issues, the course provides the opportunity to critically think and reflect on the actions of participants in sport and physical education.
