Course Objectives

  • To situate sport and physical education within the larger history of human society.
  • To develop a comprehensive understanding of sport and physical education from historical, sociocultural, and political perspectives.
  • To encourage students to critically examine the uses and implications of sport and physical activity throughout history.
  • To enable students to connect the role of sport and physical activity to development practice in both domestic and global levels.
  • To cultivate students' ability to compare diverse approaches to sport development in different regions.
  • To encourage students to connect social isseus and challenges in sporting practice.

Course Content

This course aims to orient students towards a comprehensive understanding of sport and physical education throughout the history of human beings, particularly from ancient civilizations to the age of Artificial Intelligence today. In comparison with the world history of sport and physical education, this course also provides an inclusively understanding of the role of sport in social, cultural, political, and educational sectors over the history of Turkey.
