Course Objectives

The course aims to reach the students from different areas (engineering and natural sciences, etc.) and to provide an introduction to and an overview over nanoscience and nanotechnology. In addition; it aims to make up an understanding of the state-of-the-art of nanomaterials in order to understand various important physical phenomena such as magnetic and optical properties of materials etc and will emphasize the design concepts and strategies used today and in the near future to build molecular machines. The applications of nanotechnology and its impact on our society will be discussed


Course Content

General concepts in nanotechnology; nanotechnology and the nanosciences; materials, structure and nanosurface; fabrication and characterization methods; engineering of nanosize superparamagnetic particles for use in magnetic carrier technology; nanomaterials applications; carbon-based nanomaterials; environmental and nanotechnology; and bionanotechnology and medical applications.
