Course Objectives

The course FLE 470 aims to

a) develop pre-service English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers’ technopedagogical competence in English language teaching (ELT) 

 b)  provide pre-service EFL  teachers with a sound basis in the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) 

 c) enable  pre-service  EFL teachers’ to gain familarity with various Web 2.0  and artificial intelligence tools and websites.

  d) provide  pre-service EFL teachers with valuable insights into how to integrate information technologies and artificial intelligence into teaching language skills in different EFL teaching contexts with diverse learner profiles

  e) inform prospective EFL teachers of innovative technology-enhanced ways of teaching English. 

   f) provide  prospective teachers with hands-on practice on preparing artificial intelligence-enhanced lesson plans 


Course Content

Giving students opportunities to focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of the use of digital tools in English Language Teaching (ELT); covering a variety of digital ELT teaching and learning environments such as computer assisted language learning, mobile assisted language learning, and blended/online ELT education; analyzing, designing and adapting digital tools for ELT classes such as mobile applications, websites, and software for multimodal language learning; and implementing language learning/teaching via gamification, augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the participants will be able to

a) demonstrate their technopedagogical content (TPACK)  konwledge by preparing a technology-enhanced lesson plan

b) choose the most appropriate Web 2.0 tools and websites in alignment with a particular pedagogical goal for a particular learner profile

c) present  the afffordances and challenges of Web 2.00 tools and  artificial intelligence tools in class

d) use artificial intelligence (AI) in a pedagogically-informed manner by preparing an AI-enhanced lesson plan

e) demonstrate their understanding of the affordances and challenges of various technology integration frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning and Flipped Learning via class discussions
