Course Objectives
At the end of this course, students will learn
major theoretical approaches to the rise and development of the English novel.
common themes and issues in the 18th century English novel.
common formal/stylistic features of the 18th century English novel.
Course Content
After an introduction to the background of the English novel and its beginning in the eighteenth century, novels by Defoe, Richardson, Fielding, Sterne and other significant writers are studied in-depth.

By the end of this course, students will be able to
