Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the student will learn:
- the context in which Edmund Spenser wrote
- Spenser's works, including The Faerie Queen
- to approach his poetry as representative specimens of Elizabethan poetry
Course Content
Spencers works, especially, The Faerie Queene, will be discussed as representative specimens of Elizabethan poetry.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students who pass the course satisfactorily will be able to:
- read and understand Spenser's poetry
- critically approach the relationship between the context of his poetry and the poems themselves
- identify its position within the larger Elizabethan poetry
- write critical research papers on Spenser's poetry examples
