Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- show familiarity with the phonological, morphological and syntactic similarities and differences between Turkish and English.
- become competent in using linguistics terms and concepts to describe languages.
- show awareness in the difficulties in learning English as a second language.
Course Content
Introducing current approaches to contrastive analysis; comparing and contrasting English and Turkish in the areas of phonetics and phonology, syntax and semantics with special emphasis on problem areas in language teaching and learning.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:
1) Describe the phonological, morphological and syntactic similarities and differences between Turkish and English.
2) Increase their competency in using linguistics terms and concepts to describe languages.
3) Be more aware of difficulties in learning English as a second language.
