Course Objectives
Course Content
This course is a graduate seminar focusing on the architecture of the ancient Near Eastern empires. The principal aim is to provide students with a variety of examples of specialized studies on architectural problems related to the study of imperial polities of the Near East. The course will provide an overview of architectural traditions of the Hittite, Neo-Assyrian, Urartian and Persian Empires.
The multi-disciplinary aspects of the course will further familiarize students with how economics, politics, social and religious concerns played a role in the making of architectural traditions in the Ancient Near East.
