Course Objectives
- This course presents an introduction to aerodynamics of a rotary wing aircraft.
- The course will provide the students solid knowledge on the following:
- Analysis of the main rotor aerodynamics in vertical flight and forward flight using Momentum Theory and Blade Element Theory.
- Rotor flapping dynamics at the introductory level.
- Helicopter performance and sizing calculations.
- Issues related to a rotary wing conceptual design.
- A term project will get students familiar to the subjects discussed in class.
