Course Objectives

Course Content

This course will attempt to develop an interdisciplinary framework to understand the causes and consequences of globalisation. It will provide a framework to understand the process whereby the Global, Glocal and the Local interact. The course will first examine the competing theoretical perspectives to globalisation. It will then deal with the main institutions and processes of globalisation and try to show how different institutions that were once thought to be national have become globalised and changed their function and nature. In this context a particular emphasis will be paid to the concept of global civil society. Different approaches to global civil society will be analysed.
