Course Objectives

The course aims to familiarize the students with the basic discussions in the field of comparative government, with a specific emphasis on the history of the discipline as well as the legislature, executive and judicial branches.


Course Content

This course basically aims to provide the student the necessary analytical tools in the field of comparative government. In the first section of the course, the students analyze the three main branches of state; the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary in a general and comparative perspective. In the second section, countries chosen by the students according to their own preference and/or areas of interest are analyzed in order to contribute to the term projects to be prepared by each student.


Course Learning Outcomes

The students are expected to have, first, a deeper knowledge of the executive systems of different countries; second, the ability to compare and contrast presidential, parliamentary and semi-presidential systems with their advantages and disadvantages as well as some representative cases.
