Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student will learn:

• The fundamental principles and concepts of labour law and their application in the workplace

• The laws and regulations related to wages, working hours, leave entitlements, and other terms and conditions of employment

• The legal aspects of collective bargaining, trade unions, and industrial action, and their role in shaping labour relations

• The laws and regulations related to occupational health and safety, and the responsibilities of employers and employees in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace

Course Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Understand the fundamental principles and concepts of labour law and their application in the workplace, including the sources of law, the scope of labour law, and the nature of the employment relationship

• Analyze the legal framework governing the employment relationship, including the rights and obligations of employers and employees, and the legal consequences of breach of contract

• Examine the laws and regulations related to wages, working hours, leave entitlements, and other terms and conditions of employment, and their impact on the rights and obligations of employers and employees

• Assess the laws and regulations related to occupational health and safety, and the responsibilities of employers and employees in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace

• Identify and analyze the dispute resolution mechanisms available for resolving labour disputes, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation, and their effectiveness in promoting fair and equitable outcomes for employers and employees
