Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will:

Gain a comprehensive understanding of Ottoman-Italian political, economic, and cultural relations during the Renaissance.

Analyze primary sources such as diplomatic letters, treaties, travel accounts, and merchant records.

Evaluate the role of key Italian states in Ottoman-European diplomacy.

Understand the impact of trade, war, and diplomacy on shaping Italian-Ottoman interactions.

Develop skills in historical analysis and interpretation of unpublished archival sources.


Course Content

This course aims at giving the student basic facts and dynamics that constructed Italian-Ottoman relations in the age of Renaissance through primary and secondary literature of political history of the time. The course includes a wide range of unpublished primary sources as well as the least literature on the matter.
