Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the social and economic structure of the Ottoman Empire from the 13th to the 16th centuries. By examining the dynamics of Ottoman statecraft in the classical period, students will explore the production and distribution patterns of the imperial economy. The course emphasizes the use of primary sources to analyze key aspects of Ottoman society and economy.


Course Content

The course is designed for a detailed analysis of the Ottoman social and economic structure between the 13th and the 16th centuries. The Ottoman statecraft in the classical period will be examined in terms of the production and distribution patterns of the imperial economy. Primary sources of the mentioned period will be extensively employed.
