Course Objectives

The main objective is to make the students familiar with the historiography, concepts and questions of different fields of historical study such as economic, military and climate history. Students are expected to perceive the Ottoman history as a rich and sophisticated field of research with contradicting arguments and varierty of research questions which vivid discussions are going on. The course encourages them to look at and work on the diverse fields of history together and to raise further research questions.


Course Content

Covering the time span between the years 1300-1700, the course deals with concepts, debates, controversial arguments, research questions and issues in diverse fields of Ottoman history. Ottoman economic and commercial history, change in intercontinental trade routes, military transformation, price revoluation, demographic mevements, climate change in the Ottoman lands.


Course Learning Outcomes

This course is to teach students the concepts, arguments, research questions and issues in diverse fields of Ottoman history such as economic, social, military, demographic and accounting history. The course will broaden their view of Ottoman history as multi-faceted and sophisticated field of work and lets them to gain new perspectives and to raise new research questions.
