Course Objectives

By the end of this course students will be able to

  • understand major topics, issues, theories, and approaches to understanding human memory.
  • have a better understanding of the many processes involved in the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information from memory.
  • interpret and apply cognitive experimental methods of studying human memory.
  • appreciate how closely memory is related to other cognitive processes.

Course Content

This course will cover advanced readings with a cognitive and experimental approach to memory. Topics are on semantic, episodic, autobiographical memory, recall and recognition processes, forgetting, memory for source, subjective experience of remembering, false memory, and function of memory.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students will have

  • A better understanding and appreciation for  memory processes.
  • Written 10 critical reflections on recent articles from memory literature
  • Actively participated in in-class discussions on memory processes.
  • Presented a certain topic on memory in class and lead he discussions
  • Prepared a proposal of a study to test an original hypothesis related to memory processes and presented it in class
