Course Objectives

Students will understand the methodologies of comparative historical sociology – such as parallel investigation of a theory, interpretation of contrasting events and analysis of causalities at the macro level. 


Course Content

This course begins with the examination of the methods of comparative historical sociology, such as parallel investigation of a theory, interpretation of contrasting events and analysis of causalities at the macro level. In the second part, well-known studies of the comparative historical sociology are discussed in light of the theoretical and methodological knowledge gained in the first part.


Course Learning Outcomes

1. Students will locate well-known studies of the comparative historical sociology by using the theoretical and methodological knowledge.

2. Students will examine links between the methodological discussions and the analysis of sociological cases.

3. Students will identify the purpose of sociological comparisons across historical trajectories.
