Course Objectives
The primary aim of this course is to cultivate the ability to conduct design through research, equipping graduate students with a comprehensive understanding of architecture’s social, political, economic, geographic, and professional contexts. Additionally, the course fosters an awareness of the broader social and environmental consequences of design decisions.
- The key objectives of the studio include:
- Developing the ability to critically access, evaluate, and synthesize written and visual materials related to architectural research.
- Strengthening analytical skills to define and frame a research problem within broader spatial, socio-economic, and cultural contexts.
- Achieving proficiency in utilizing diverse representational techniques to communicate architectural research effectively.
- Enhancing the ability to integrate theoretical and practical knowledge into a research-driven design process.
- Encouraging interdisciplinary engagement and the application of innovative methodologies in architectural research.
Course Content
An architectural design studio milieu for advanced studies on cultural, social, and the environmental contexts of design processes as well as the architectonic qualities of space.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of contemporary paradigms, emerging issues, and key themes in architectural discourse and effectively integrate them into their research.
- Develop and implement creative research methodologies that contribute to innovative architectural design solutions.
