Course Objectives

To learn the basic concepts in polymer chemistry (mechanisms of polymerization reactions, polymerization kinetics, methods for characterization of polymers, polymer reactions, polymer solutions, ....) and constitute a background for more advanced polymer lectures.


Course Content

Polymerization and Copolymerization. Characterization of Polymers. Bulk and solution properties of polymers. Manufacturing methods, properties and uses of commodity plastics, elastomers and fibers. Some specialty polymers and their uses. (F)


Course Learning Outcomes

The students should obtain a broad knowledge about basics of polymer chemistry (synthesis, structure, properties, characterization).
