Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to guide students through the process of designing, conducting, and completing an original research study in the field of city planning, under the supervision of a faculty advisor. The course supports students in formulating a clear research problem, applying appropriate theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches, conducting rigorous data collection and analysis, and producing a scholarly thesis that contributes to the discipline. It also aims to develop the student’s capacity for independent research, critical analysis, and professional academic communication.


Course Content

Program of research leading to Master of City Planning arranged between student and a faculty member. Student register to this course starting from their third semester while the research program or write-up of thesis in progress


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Formulate and refine a research problem that addresses a significant issue in city planning, grounded in relevant theories and literature.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate research design using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods suited to the research objectives.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret empirical data with methodological rigor and ethical integrity.
  • Draw valid and well-supported conclusions and articulate their implications for theory, practice, and policy in city planning.
  • Produce a coherent, well-structured, and academically rigorous thesis that meets the university’s scholarly and formatting requirements.
