Course Objectives
During the process of and as the result of successfully completing this course, the students will:
- demonstrate an understanding of helping process including intentions for intervening with clients, helping skills to fulfill these intentions, possible reactions demonstrated by clients, and the means to evaluate the interventions
- recognize the significance of the counselor role and ethical issues regarding the counseling relationship
- explore the process of counseling through conducting counseling sessions
- give and receive constructive feedback about demonstrated helping skills
- explore and become aware of their strengths and areas for continued growth as prospective counselors
Course Content
Some perspectives on effective helping; characteristics of effective helpers; various methods and skills used in individual counseling; selecting and structuring skills to meet clients needs; developing counseling skills appropriate to different stages of counseling.
