Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will have
- identified the characteristics of various instructional technologies and their place and use in English language teaching in the 21st century.
- considered both the nature of the 21st century learner and the implications of learning theories as they are applied in the development of instructional materials.
- discovered what background knowledge and skills are needed to select, develop and assess all types of instructional materials.
- explored a wide range of instructional media and technologies for language learning including audio, video, visual, multi-media, computers, the internet, language corpora and mobile devices.
Course Content
(For Non-CTE students) Characteristics of various instructional technologies, the place and the use of technologies in instructional process, development of teaching materials through instructional technologies (worksheets, transparencies, slides, videotapes, computer-based instructional material, etc.), assessment of various teaching materials.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- describe the function of instructional technology in the learning process
- select appropriate instructional media and materials on the basis of major learning theories and characteristics of learners
- analyze and grade texts for lexis and readability
- prepare a wide range of instructional materials and plan the use of various instructional media and technologies for language learning
- distinguish basic advantages and disadvantages of the major instructional materials and media
- apply and evaluate the effective use of instructional media and materials through practice and experimentation
