Course Objectives

This course will serve as an introduction to the broad field of social psychology. It will be a continuation of the “PSYC251- Social Psychology I”. We will cover basic principles, theories and research in the study of social behaviour. Furthermore, we will seek ways of establishing links between (social psychological) theory and the social reality (e.g. our everyday lives) itself. In doing that, you will be acquainted with dominant and critical ways of thinking within social psychology.


Course Content

Review of theoretical and empirical work in the areas of interpersonal attraction, group processes including norms, conformity, negotiation, cooperation, conflict, leadership, productivity and socialization processes such as sex-role learning and pro and antisocial behavior.


Course Learning Outcomes

 

The purpose of this course is to introduce psychology students to some basic and applied areas of social psychology. By the end of this course, you will be able to

1-    evaluate fundamental topics of social psychology,

2-    distinguish between different approaches within social psychology,

3-    comprehend different methods used in social psychological research,

4-    think through social psychological concepts in making sense of the social behaviour
