Course Objectives
Students will understand different approaches in the field of urban sociology
Course Content
institutions. The origins and the evolution of towns in Western Europe and in the East. Medieval, early modern industrial and post-modern cities. Major theoretical approaches in Urban Sociology. Recent urban trends and processes: suburbanization, gentrification and globalization.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. Students will discuss and evaluate classical urban sociological theories following a historical overview.
2. Students will contrast and compare urban political economic perspectives and classic approaches such as the Chicago School.
3. Students will evaluate and discuss contemporary urban sociological approaches.
