Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the student will
- use language effectively and fluently
- know Turkish language's pronunciation features
- discuss a matter in a speech
- apply effective presentation techniques.
Course Content
Language, its definition and importance, relations between speaking and thinking, developing the comprehension and expression ability; language and culture relations, listening and importance, effective listening; reading, its importance and functions; reading types; expression and its rules,
expression units, types, forms and means; oral expression and types of oral expression; fluent, correct and effective speaking, body language; classroom exercises and discussions.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:
- recognize importance of language and communication in individual and social life
- realize relations between language and thought.
- comprehend a composition that they listen, read and watch
- express the opinions and feelings clearly as in speaking
- use correct language vocabulary, structures in oral communication
- speak Turkish language keeping the rules of stress and intonation
- use body language in accordance with the speech
- pay attention to audience's interest and expectation during communication
- listen a speech paying attention to politeness and context
- evaluates the speech according to different context and points of view
- prepared to speak to the community at panel, forum, conversation, meeting etc.
