Course Objectives

The objectives of the course are to conceive and learn the Turkish alphabet, pronunciation, reading and develop basic communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Emphasis will be placed on vocabulary expansion, basic grammar acquisition and basic comprehension.


Course Content

Designed to instruct foreign students in the rudiments of the Turkish language in terms of grammar, syntax and vocabulary. Basic characteristics of Turkish language: sounds, vowel and consonant harmonies, changes in consonants, nominal compounds, possessive suffixes, cases, the verb “imek”, basic tenses and modes, comparative and superlative, numerals, compound tenses.


Course Learning Outcomes

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

Greet and bid farewell, introduce her/himself and others, talk about his and others’ occupations, write short essays about her/himself, talk about her/his family, offer help, ask about price and evaluate the cost, ask to repeat, thank, read product specifications, fill a form, make telephone calls, understand words about spare time activities, make compliments, talk about hobbies and skills, request and thank, date, make an offer and react, listen to and understand talks about food and drinks, talk about eating and drinking habits, understand dialogues about eating, listen and understand announcements, get information and end a phone conversation.
