Course Objectives

This is an art course where students will prepare a research paper on history of glass art and civilizations, learn about glass forming techniques, and do applications. The course requires 8 hours of attendance per week. It aims to introduce students with art, specifically with glass art, and to promote their art engagement. Another objective of the course is to transfer the technical and aesthetic knowledge necessary for transforming abstract thinking into concrete thinking via glass material. 

In order to take the course, it is necessary to attend the course selection day announced on the department's website. Registrations are made during the add-drop week.


Course Content

The course aims to introduce the techniques of glass molding. Throughout four-year syllabus, different techniques for glass moldings are experienced and practiced with support of related literature and theoretical discussions. Every year is independent from other years and students are evaluated according to their works at the end of the year.


Course Learning Outcomes

Hot glass shaping technique improves students’ ability to think fast, decide quickly, and find solutions rapidly. The course encourages students to know themselves, explore differences, realize values, plan correctly, and gain artistic thinking and creativity. Introduction to the basics involved in glass fusing and slumping, the concepts of glass, glass fusing, and glass slumping will be covered with hands-on experience using a variety of techniques to create finished glass projects.
