Course Objectives
By the end of the semester, students will be able to:
- demonstrate critical thinking as they explore texts on various issues
- identify argumentation and persuasion strategies used by authors
- explore and critically respond to perspectives raised in texts on various topics.
Course Content
A continuation of Critical Reading and Thinking I, aiming to develop critical reading and thinking skills with emphasis on reading texts which are structurally and intellectually complex and thought-provoking.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the semester, students will be able to:
- identify issues and conclusions in texts they read
- detect and analyze arguments in texts they read
- identify rhetorical strategies used by authors
- explain how authors utilize ethical appeal as a rhetorical strategy in texts they read
- explain how authors utilize logical appeal as a rhetorical strategy in texts they read
- explain how authors utilize emotional appeal as a rhetorical strategy in texts they read
- detect bias in media segments
