Course Objectives

This course is a continuation of STAT 201. We will cover the following subtopics of inferential statistics: hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, joint probabilities (several random variables), goodness of fit tests, nonparametric tests and some basics of linear models.


Course Content

Random samples. Sample mean and variance. Chebychev`s inequality. Law of large numbers. Central limit theorem. Estimation. Maximum likelihood, unbiased, minimum variance unbiased, consistent and efficient estimators. Sufficiency. Confidence intervals. Hypothesis testing. Introduction to nonparametric methods. Regression and analysis of variance.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful participation in this course, students will be able to:
1. Decide under uncertainity regarding main population parameters.
2. Compare groups according to population parameters.
3. Get basic understanding on the theory fit tests and non-parametric statistics.
4.Learn to bridge from sample to population by using estimation theory.

5. Understand correlation between variables.

6.Use relationships to get better estimates by using simple linear regression.

7. Interpret and articulate these results
