Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • find a topic of interest
  • synthesize the literature in order to present and justify their research ideas
  • develop a research idea (or a program) towards their master's thesis
  • design a study (or a series of studies) 
  • present their idea along with evidence from their comprehensive literature search along with their methodological justification 

Course Content

The aim of this course is to guide the students in making an extensive literature review of possible thesis subjects and to choose a research topic and subsequently to formulate a thesis proposal. At the end of the course students are expected to present a comprehensive literature review of their area of interest and to formulate a thesis proposal.


Course Learning Outcomes

Students who succesfully complete this course will be able to:

  • formulate a research question
  • develop hypotheses to test that question
  • conduct an extensive literature review to justify the research question
  • design a study appropriate to test the research question
  • operationalize the necessary variables and deal with measurement issues
  • develop / find relevant scales or procedures in order to conduct their design
  • present and defend their proposed thesis research design in front of colleagues and professors
