Course Objectives

The goal of this course is to immerse students in a hands-on, introductory field study focused on traffic psychology, involving data collection, analysis, and the presentation of findings. The fieldwork will primarily take place on the METU campus, with the aim of producing insights that contribute to campus traffic safety.

Students will collect qualitative and/or quantitative data from campus road users regarding traffic safety and will gradually analyze this data to raise awareness and promote safer traffic system. Throughout the process, students will be guided and supervised by the course instructor and teaching assistants.

By the end of the term, students are expected to present their findings and critically reflect on both the results and their research process.


Course Content

Each topics course is designed to deepen the student ` s knowledge in a selected issue-oriented sub-area of the field. The course may involve analysis of current theoretical debates, a detailed treatment of a subarea, which may appear as a chapter in a regular survey course, or by getting acquainted with the skills required for in depth analysis.


Course Learning Outcomes

The course is designed to help students understand how to conduct a small-scale traffic psychology study step by step. Upon completion, students will have a deeper understanding of traffic systems, traffic culture, and safety improvement, alongside key concepts in traffic psychology.

They will also gain practical experience in conducting a basic field study in psychology.

In addition, students will take part in a process through which they can contribute to the improvement of a system they are actively part of.
