Course Objectives

At the end of this course,the student will learn:

- detailed information on classical social psychology studies

- about debates regarding the reproducibility of the classical studies’ findings

- progress in the literature regarding these classical studies and topics has evolved over time


Course Content

Review of theoretical and empirical work in the areas of interpersonal attraction, group processes including norms, conformity, negotiation, cooperation, conflict, leadership, productivity and socialization processes such as sex-role learning and pro and antisocial behavior.

By the conclusion of this course, students will have the capacity to:

  • Grasp Historical Contexts and Theoretical Frameworks: Understand the historical contexts and various theoretical and methodological approaches that have shaped the field of social psychology.
  • Recognize the Impact of Classic Studies: Appreciate the significance of classic studies in social psychology, identifying the central questions they posed regarding social behaviors.
  • Analyze Research Findings: Examine research findings and their presentation in the literature through critical exploration of classical social psychology studies.
  • Understand Scientific Methods: Comprehend the scientific methods employed to study behavior within the social context and develop a critical perspective on their application.
  • Evaluate Texts Critically: Develop the ability to critically assess both classical and contemporary social psychology texts.
