Course Objectives
This course is designed to equip students with the basic skills required by all social and political science students to successfully conduct their studies to a high academic standard. The course will achieve this in the following ways:
- Introduce students to Teaching, Learning and research practices and platforms of the University
- Introduce students to writing social and political science bibliographies
- Instruct students on academic citation and referencing
- Instruct students in critical reading and discussion of academic texts
- Introduce students to the use of social and political science data bases and library resources
- Introduce students to the skills necessary for the interpretation of quantitative data sets and statistical tables

When students have completed the course they will have acquired the necessary academic skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Students will be able to use teaching platforms used in Campus
- Students will be able to cite and reference authors in their written work according to the requirements of the university
- Students will be able to write an academic bibliography
- Students will be fully aware of the concept of plagiarism and understand the negative consequences of committing such an act during their studies at METU NCC
- Students will be able to conduct their own literature searches
- Students will be able to analyse and use basic statistical data, drawing out its wider social and political significance
- Students will be able to summarise texts and materials which constitute required reading for their various courses.
