Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students will learn:

  • basic concepts in scalar mechanics
  • fundamentals of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formualtions
  • canonical transformations

Course Content

Lagrange's equation, central force problem, Rigid body problem, small oscillations, Hamilton's equations, canonical transformations, Hamilton-Jacobi theory, introduction to continuous systems and fields.


Course Learning Outcomes

Students, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

  • be equipped with an alternative method  to the vector mechanics
  • use mathematical functions to express physical constraints of a system
  • analyze the motion of a classical system in a very systematical way
  • master some of mathematical methods
