Course Objectives

Students become familiar with the currents of thought in the 17th and 18th century philosophy.

They develop critical thinking in coming to understand the themes and the central problems of the period They develop interpretative and argumentative skills in reading the relevant original texts.


Course Content

A study of Continental philosophy in the 17th and 18th centuries with special emphasis on Rationalism; Descartes, Spinoza and Leibniz.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the term, the students will have

*received an extensive knowledge about  the main currents of thought in the 17th and 18th century philosophy.

*gained interpretative skills by a close reading of the original texts.

* gained in depth knowledge regarding the prominent themes and problems of the era.
