Course Objectives

At the end of the course students will be able to explore how to keep reflexive journals and methodological logs; to make methodological decisions by comparing one method by one another; to conduct exemplary field examples, qualitative methods; to demonstrate extensive fieldwork, notetaking, analytic, and writing skills.


Course Content

Department of mathematics and science education program is part of college of education and students who graduate from this department mostly conduct educational research. Educational research especially the qualitative research requires fieldwork studies. However, good qualitative researchers and fieldworkers are made by solid training and good philosophical background. Most of our students go to field with or without taking a qualitative course, however introductory courses can only provide fundamentals of research methods and analysis. The fieldwork training is always limited or missing in the programs.Especially qualitative studies require field familiarity doing research n education research as they proceed towards their thesis and dissertation work.


Course Learning Outcomes

The course provides extensive fieldwork experience.

The course trains individuals as observers and interviewers. 

This course provides advanced instruction about the theory and practice of fieldwork methods from an ethnographic perspective.

The course presents knowledge, skill and practice of fieldwork for those doing qualitative research for their dissertations and projects.

The course aims to train individuals by focusing on qualitative methods, their strengths and weaknesses and conducting exemplary field studies.
