Course Objectives

At the end of this course students will be able to;

Learn research ethics in educational research.

Learn an understanding of the various components of research design and of the relationships among those components.


Course Content

An advanced educational research course providing the competencies required for understanding, critically analyzing and utilizing research in early childhood and elementary science and mathematics education. Emphasis on designing the research methodology for dissertation proposals with in-depth coverage of selected topics in the design of research and the collection and analysis of data.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to;

  • Explain research ethics.
  • Explore trends and issues related to research design.
  • Develop an understanding of the various components of research design and of the relationships among those components.
  • Appraise the strengths and weaknesses of a particular research report.
  • Identify a research problem within students’ field of concentration, to generate appropriate research questions, and to explore the choice of an appropriate methodology and design.
  • Explore issues in designing a clearly focused, defensible research project.
  • Explain the language and approach of scientific research.
  • Explain how a suitable research "problem" is selected.
  • Use library resources and services.
  • Analyze major considerations (content, organization, rules, style, etc.) related to writing formal, scientific research reports.
