Develop insight into research reviews included in the primary texts of the mathematics education literature

Understand the big ideas in terms of content and approach given in the primary texts of the mathematics education literature

Criticize the research studies in different content areas in the mathematics education literature

Criticize research methodologies of the studies on mathematics teaching and learning

Discuss the recent developments in different content areas in the mathematics education literature


Course Content

This course focuses on the current state of theory and research on learning, instruction, and curriculum in school mathematics. Main themes of mathematics education research will be examined through research reviews included in the major texts of the field. The course is expected to provide a sound understanding and a critical perspective of the mathematics education research.

Discuss the meaning of specific concepts in mathematics education from different theoretical approaches

Discuss various techniques that are suitable to assess students learning in specific content areas in mathematics education
