Course Objectives
By the end of the semester, preservice science teachers should be able to:
- comprehend contemporary view of science and science teaching
- Aware of misconceptions students bring to science class
- analyze students’ prior ideas
- comprehend processes of science and scientific inquiry
- construct lesson plans in line with conceptual change approach
Course Content
Aim of the science teaching; scientific literacy; instructional theories in science teaching; students conceptions of science; science teaching strategies, methods, techniques, materials and practices; laboratory approaches and safety guideline; hands on science; graphical organizers; analogies; use of models in science teaching; development and implementation of science lesson plans.

By the end of the semester, preservice science teachers should be able to:
- Use appropriate teaching strategies while teaching science
- Apply principles of conceptual change approach to teach science
- Integrate science process skills into science concepts
- Conduct activities promoting meaningful learning
- Develop teaching methods to remediate students’ misconceptions in science
- Design lesson plans involving conceptual change approach
- Determine the appropriate tool in assessing students’ conceptions
- Distinguish between rote and meaningful learning
