Course Objectives

By the end of the semester, preservice science teachers should be able to:

  • comprehend contemporary view of science and science teaching
  • Aware of misconceptions students bring to science class
  • analyze students’ prior ideas
  • comprehend processes of science and scientific inquiry
  • construct  lesson plans in line with conceptual change approach

Course Content

Aim of the science teaching; scientific literacy; instructional theories in science teaching; students conceptions of science; science teaching strategies, methods, techniques, materials and practices; laboratory approaches and safety guideline; hands on science; graphical organizers; analogies; use of models in science teaching; development and implementation of science lesson plans.

By the end of the semester, preservice science teachers should be able to:

  • Use appropriate teaching strategies while teaching science
  • Apply principles of conceptual change approach to teach science 
  • Integrate science process skills into science concepts
  • Conduct activities promoting meaningful learning
