Course Objectives
By the end of this course the students will;
- understand the primary principles of learning and teaching mathematics in schools;
- understands the issues and approaches in teaching and learning of mathematics.
Course Content
Nature of mathematics and mathematical thinking; the rationale for teaching and learning mathematics in schools; historical, social, cultural, and economic perspectives on teaching mathematics; issues, approaches, and principles in teaching and learning of mathematics; related skills and classroom applications regarding mathematics teaching and learning.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, we expect that our students will be able to;
- explain the nature of mathematics and mathematical thinking,
- defend the rationale for teaching and learning mathematics in schools,
- identify the issues, approaches, and principles in effective teaching and learning of mathematics;
- explain historical, social, cultural, and economic perspectives on teaching mathematics
- understands the related skills and classroom applications regarding mathematics teaching and learning
