Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the student will learn:
- the thermodynamics of gas turbine cycles
- various gas turbine applications
- the Jargon of gas turbine industry.
- the design methodology of gas turbine components.
- to estimate the losses in components.
- to analyze, design and evaluate the performance of gas turbine cycles.
- to evaluate the design and the off-design operations of gas turbines.
Course Content
Introduction to gas turbines. Gas turbine cycles for shaft power and propulsion. Centrifugal and axial compressors and turbines; blade design. Combustion systems. Prediction of gas turbine performance. Laboratory experiments.
Course Learning Outcomes
Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:
- visualize and sketch elements of different gas turbine applications,
- use the jargon of gas turbine industry.
- analyze a gas turbine cycle and estimate the efficiency of it,
- design (preliminary) compressor and turbine blades.
- evaluate the design and the off-design operations of gas turbines.
