MATH260 BASIC LINEAR ALGEBRA

Course Code:2360260
METU Credit (Theoretical-Laboratory hours/week):3 (3.00 - 0.00)
ECTS Credit:5.0
Department:Mathematics
Language of Instruction:English
Level of Study:Undergraduate
Course Coordinator:Prof.Dr. AHMET İRFAN SEVEN
Offered Semester:Fall Semesters.

Course Objectives

It is expected that the students will:

  • learn basic methods of linear algebra;
  • learn how to apply them;
  • get enough expirience with technical tools of linear algebra;
  • be able to show results of their study during the exams.

Course Content

Matrices, determinants and systems of linear equations. Vector spaces, the Euclidian space, inner product spaces, linear transformations. Eigenvalues, diagonalization.

Course Learning Outcomes

The students will gain certain expirience in recognizing/expressing problems of linear nature in terms of linear algebra and in solving them by using linear methods, when available. On this way the students will have to attain certain theoretical background in basic linear algebra.
