Course Objectives

This course aims to:

  • Encourage critical reflection on the integration of design thinking into strategic decision-making processes
  • Examine the relationship between industrial design and corporate strategy across various organizational contexts
  • Explore the different roles and levels of design functions within corporate structures
  • Introduce key tools and methodologies that support design-driven innovation
  • Investigate how design can serve as a strategic and competitive asset in business environments
  • Analyze the economic impact and value of design through national and international case studies, with a particular focus on examples from Turkey.

Course Content

This course examines the relationship between design and corporate strategy. Course themes include levels of design functions within an organization, tools for design innovation, and how design can be utilized as a competitive and strategic tool. The course also discusses the economic value of design through case studies from Turkey and other countries.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the strategic roles and functions of design within different organizational and corporate contexts.
  • Identify and apply tools and frameworks that support design-driven innovation.
  • Critically assess case studies from Turkey and other countries to understand the practical implications of integrating design into business strategy.
  • Articulate informed perspectives on the potential of design as a catalyst for innovation and organizational transformation.
