The course sets out to:

  • introduce key relationships among users, products, tasks, and usage contexts;
  • examine the principles and dimensions of usability in physical and digital systems;
  • familiarise students with established usability testing methods and standards;
  • link usability testing outcomes to user centred design practices and verification processes.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

  • explain core usability concepts;
  • distinguish between perceived usability and measured usability and understand their inherent strengths and weaknesses;
  • identify appropriate usability testing methods for various design scenarios;
  • interpret and critique provided usability data.
