Course Objectives

At the successful completion of this course, students are expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • The basic principles related to biological, psychological and social changes from adolescence to old age.
  • Major theories of developmental psychology through adolescence and later years.
  • Developmental concepts that they can apply to everyday life.
  • Research methods used by developmental psychologists.

Course Content

A detailed account of various theories of adolescent development emphasizing biological, cognitive and emotional changes in adolescence. Adolescents and their families, adolescents in schools and at work. Counseling services for adolescents.


Course Learning Outcomes

This unit is concerned with human development and its physical, cognitive and social aspects. In particular, this course focuses on the periods of adolescence, middle adulthood and late adulthood as well as issues pertaining to the latter parts of life including death and bereavement. A student successfully completing this unit should have a good grasp of issues that pertain to adolescence and later stages of human development.
