Course Objectives

The course is designed to equip students with computational skills needed to solve practical dynamic soil-structure interaction problems that are encountered in design and analysis of structures.

Course Content

Discrete Fourier transform. Soil-structure interaction analysis: direct and substructure methods, free field system, impedance relation, scattering analysis. Artificial boundary conditions: viscous boundary conditions in the absence and presence of free field. Description of seismic environment: types of control points, free displacements and forces in terms of control point motion.

Course Learning Outcomes

To enable students the mathematical skills to understand and to apply computational methods for dynamic soil-structure interaction analysis.
To enable students develop computer programs to implement simplified models in dynamic interaction analyis.
To enable students to solve dynamic response problems in frequency domain.
To enable students understand the fundamentals of wave propogation in elastic domains.
To enable students to apply substructuring in dynamic response analyses.
