Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- discuss epistemological foundations of qualitative inquiry
- design a qualitative research project by identifying an appropriate approach
- critically review qualitative studies conducted in language education settings
Course Content
Focusing on the epistemological foundations of qualitative inquiry, this course aims to introduce graduate students to the design and implementation of qualitative research projects. Course participants will explore various qualitative research traditions such as Interviewing, Case Study, Action Research, Ethnography, Narrative Inquiry, Phenomenological Studies, and Grounded Theory.

- discuss various qualitative research approaches
- collect data based on a particular qualitative resarch approach
- analyze data based on a particular qualitative research approach
- distinguish various qualitative research approaches
- create a qualitative research proposal
