Course Objectives
The students are expected to develop and refine their skills in conducting research, writing and revising.The course aims to heighten their awareness of existing research methods and techniques in literary studies,and ethical considerations,while developing their ability to understand and evaluate, methods and approaches in doing research.
Course Content
This course focuses on ways of doing effective research and writing good research papers articles in the field of literary studies. The course consists of theoretical readings on research and scholarship in literary studies as well as practical examples of completed research, which the students are expected to assess in the light of the research principles discussed throughout the course. students are also expected to work on their own research paper article throughout the term. This work involves not only planning, drafting and revising the research paper in line with the principles of literary research but also reflecting critically on ones own evolving understanding of and approach to research and writing.
Course Learning Outcomes
This course is structured around three aspects of writing research papers in the field of literary studies
the craft of research, methods and techniques of literary interpretation and the politics of academic writing. This course will be heavily dependent on students' own writing throughout the semester: they are expected to comment critically on their classmates' writing and reflect critically on and revise their own writing.Students will inquire what other scholars say about the methods, techniques and politics of writing research papers and test out their evolving understanding of writing papers in the field of literary studies by enacting it in practice.
