Course Objectives
Students will be able to
- Analyze mathematics textbooks at the elementary and middle grade students through national and international curriculums
- Understand the basic concepts of elementary mathematics curriculum
- Understand the role of textbooks in the teaching and learning of mathematics
- Evaluate mathematics textbooks for selecting and preparing mathematical tasks and problems
Course Content
Examination of mathematics textbooks and educational programs, approved by Ministry of Education, in terms of students level, content, language, format, and contribution to learning.
Prerequisite: ELE 224
Course Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to understand the role of textbooks in teaching and an analysis of mathematics textbooks approved by the Ministry of National Education and intenational curriculum textbooks used in IB, IGSCE and Singapure programs through grades kindergarten to 9 th grade
- with a critical perspective;
- in terms of content, clarity and use of a language, appropriateness to student level, format, physical quality, contribution to meaningful learning, and practical use in teaching.
