Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students are expected to:

  • explain basic concepts of learning in non- school contexts
  • experience and reflect on learning in out-of-school contexts
  • relate their discipline to learning opportunities in out-of-school contexts
  • Prepare steps for planning and organizing learning in out-of-school contexts
  • Develop out-of-school learning tasks
  • Implement out-of-school activities
  • Plan for an evaluation for student learning in out-of-school contexts

Course Content

Fundamental concepts related to learning in non-school contexts: the importance and scope of learning, teaching in non-school contexts, teaching methods and strategies for learning in non-school contexts (project-based, station technique etc.) and teaching materials, non-school contexts for learning (museums, science centers, zoos, etc.), developing, planning implementing and evaluating the learning in non-school contexts.
